Get off your GAS and DO SOMETHING!!!

In the past eight months, as a manufacturing plant may retool, I have recarred. Eight months ago I had a Ford Expedition, a Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.7 liter HEMI (OOO-Rah!!), and a 1993 model Mercedes 300E with an in-line 6 cylider engine. The Expedition and Dodge Ram got 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. The Mercedes was my daughters car and I had planned on selling that car anyway due to the high mileage and her getting ready to go off to college. You may ask "why have you sold all these cars in such a short period of time?" The reason is the price of gas. I can promise you it was not because of the global warming hoax. It was strictly an economic decision. I bought a Chrysler Pacifica (my wife's car) to replace the Expedition and she is now getting 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. I bought a Saturn Vue (my car) to replace the Dodge Ram and I am getting 27 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. I bought a Mazda 3 for my daughter. I'm not sure what mpg she's getting but I do know that she is not hitting me or my wife up for gas money as much as she used to. I'm sure that I'm not the only person who has done this and I'm sure many more people are thinking about it. Why are we having to do this. The politicians would have you believe that the oil companies are to blame. Others say the blame belongs to the Arabs, speculators or the notion that we have raped the earth to the point where it is running out of oil. That last part reminds me of the "Chicken Little" story.

How did we manage to get ourselves into this position? It started way back in the 1960's with the beginning of the "Environmentalism" movement. It started small and over the years has gotten bigger to the point where it is the big elephant in the room today. I must admit that these people have been very smart. They used our politicians and court system against us to push their agenda counting on our complancency and they were right. We have allowed our politicians to pass laws that prohibit the United States from drilling for oil on our on land and off of our shores. It upsets me to no end (ticks me off in southern talk) that China, Mexico and Cuba can drill in the Gulf of Mexico and we can't because of our internal politics. We have allowed environmentlists to go to court without much challenge and win decisions that prohibit private property owners from doing anything on their land because the "Yellow Bellied, Spotted Nosed, 3 Legged, Short Tailed, Hairy Palmed, Southeastern Pink Salamander" is supposedly in danger and that the 3 acres the property owner has is the only place in the world it can live.

Here we are in June 2008 with gas selling for over $4.00 per gallon and who do we have to thank for it. Take a look in the mirror. Okay, as a good southern boy I know when I have a problem. When I recognize and identify the problem I form a plan to combat and eliminate the problem and then I implement that plan. The problem is that oil is too expensive and we are importing the majority of our oil. The way we correct this problem is to drill for our own oil, increase the supply and then the prices will come down. Brahma Obach and the Democrat Party are saying that we can't drill ourselves out of this problem. Poppy cock (elitest northern slang for "Bull Crap"). John McCain, the republican presidential candidate, agrees with me on this. I have two republican senators in my state that agree with me on this. Why haven't we seen legislation from any of these politicians to put into action what they say they believe? Is it because we have the wrong people in office? I think that goes without saying. Is it because the oil producing countries have lobbies that are somehow funding our politicians? Hmmmm. You get right down to it, I can't tell the difference between so called Democrats or Republicans. There may not be a difference! They may just keep the title to try and fool good old southern boys like me.

I'm fed up with this whole dad-gum mess (the situation displeases me greatly in northern talk). I have already contacted one of my Senators and told him that I want him to draft and submit legislation that will allow oil companies to drill for oil on US property and off our shores. I also told him that I want a provision in the legislation that requires oil companies to sell the oil, that is taken from US owned properties, in the United States. I didn't contact the other Senator from my state because he is a lost cause. Everyone who is ticked off about the fuel prices needs to contact their Congressman and Senators and demand that they draft legislation allowing the drilling for oil in the United States. We must see action by our legislators that address this issue. We don't want to see another hearing on who supposedly outed a secretary at the CIA or steroids in baseball. This is all fog, smoke and mirrors used to confuse people and to keep from having to address the issues that affect us all. We need to tell our legsilators to "GET OFF YOUR GAS AND DO SOMETHING!!!"

Below is one of my favorite quotes.

Robert E. Lee

"There has always been a hazard in military movements, but we must decide between the positions of inaction and the risk of action."

Be Bold!!! Have a GREAT WEEK!!!
